Guide to Unlock the Bootloader of Moto G5 Plus
Prerequisites:
Hardware Prerequisites:
1. You need a laptop or a desktop with internet access to follow this guide.
Software Prerequisites:
1. Download and install '15 seconds ADB Installer' from here, this will install the necessary ADB and fastboot drivers.
2. Download and install the Motorola USB drivers from here.
Steps to Unlock the Bootloader of the device:
*Warning: Unlocking your Bootloader will erase all the data in your device, so please make a backup of your device before proceeding with this guide. Also make sure to have the latest updates installed for the smoothest experience.
1. To unlock the Bootloader first we need to enable the option to unlock the Bootloader in the developer settings. To access developer settings go to Settings > About phone, then tap the build number multiple times until the message "You are a developer now" appears to enable developer settings.
2. Now go to Settings > Developer options, then enable 'USB debugging' and the "OEM Unlocking" option and enter the pin or password on the confirmation page.
3. Now turn off your smartphone, then connect your phone to the PC and press and hold down the phone's volume down and power button simultaneously to boot into fastboot mode.
4. Now open a web browser in your PC and visit this page: https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-a , scroll down the page, click next, create a Motorola account or sign in through gmail.
5. Now go to 'C:\adb' in your PC, now hold shift and press right click, then press the 'Open command window here' option, now copy and paste this command(fastboot oem get_unlock_data) in the command prompt and press enter.
6. Now copy and paste the codes in the five strings which were returned without '(bootloader)' or white spaces into the box in Motorola's website, then click 'Can my device be unlocked?', accept the license agreement and then press 'Request Unlock Key'.
7. You will receive an email from Motorola with the unlock key, copy the key from the email and then type 'fastboot oem unlock key', paste the copied key in place of the word 'key' and press enter, the command prompt will ask you to repeat the step, do it as directed.
THAT'S IT your BOOTLOADER is now UNLOCKED!!!
